This light bulb is designed to sanitize and kill over 99.99% germs in water such as molds, protozoa, yeast and bacteria. The short UV wavelength of 254 nm emitted by the light bulb enables thorough disinfection and results in altering the genetics of the microorganism. This destroys the microorganisms rendering them harmless. It is necessary to schedule annual replacement of the bulb to ensure efficiency. Even after a year the UV bulb emits light but may have reduced its capacity to kill microorganisms.
