Researchers believe that the peak UV output of 253.7nm reacts with the genetics of the microorganisms and renders them incapable of reproducing. Since the light bulbs are intended to destroy microorganisms it is recommended that you replace them annually. This replacement UV lamp can last for approximately 10,000 working hours after which the UV output reduces even though the UV lamp emits bright light.
